Nissan Rogue Warning Lights

2025 Nissan Rogue

The Nissan Rogue is one of our most popular selections for families in Lincoln. This SUV balances space and efficiency, and you’ll find many premium features in the cabin. The 2025 Nissan Rogue, in particular, has the Rock Creek Edition that helps you with off-road adventures far from Omaha.

This guide from Sid Dillon Nissan discusses the Nissan Rogue warning lights. If you see one of these lights glowing on your dashboard, it could be something that needs maintenance. Other lights are simply indicators rather than warning lights on a Nissan Rogue. We’ll explain the difference and other details as you keep reading.

Warning Lights on a Nissan Rogue vs. Indicator Lights

There is a key distinction between the warning lights on a Nissan Rogue compared to indicator lights. You’ll need to know this difference before you drive.

Nissan Rogue warning lights work by activating and remaining on when there is an issue with one or more of your SUV’s systems. Most will also briefly light up for a few seconds when you start the engine, and then they turn off soon after. This shows that your SUV’s systems are working properly. If these lights remain on, or they do not activate when you first turn on your Rogue, consult your owner’s manual and driver information display, and consider bringing in your Rogue for service to our dealership.

Indicator lights are often white or blue in hue, as opposed to the yellow, orange, or red warning lights. These indicator lights show if something is in use, such as your high beams or fog lights. Other indicator lights will show that something is not in use, such as your vehicle’s dynamic control (VDC) system.

What Do the Warning Lights Mean on a Nissan Rogue?

The warning lights can mean several things on your Nissan Rogue. It depends on what lights are illuminated. Some lights mean you should service your vehicle soon. Others indicate you should get your vehicle serviced ASAP.

See some of the common Nissan Rogue warning lights and what they mean here:

ABS Warning Light

This Nissan Rogue warning light indicates an issue with your anti-lock braking system or low brake fluid. This light will either look like “ABS” spelled out, or a circle with “ABS” inside and two outer lines on each side. Brakes are important, so get your vehicle serviced ASAP.

Charge Warning Light or Battery Light

This warning light can indicate problems with your vehicle’s electric charging system or your battery. It may also mean that your alternator belt is loose, broken, or missing. This light looks like a battery with + and – symbols inside.

Low Tire Pressure Warning Light

This light activates when your tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) detects low tire pressure or an issue with the TPMS itself. This light resembles a horseshoe with an exclamation point inside.

Master Warning Light

This is a triangle with an exclamation point inside. It can indicate problems that are easy to fix, such as a loose fuel cap, but it can also indicate larger problems, such as overheating within your AWD system.

If this light comes on when you’re driving, reduce your speed, prepare to pull over, and check your information display for more details. You may need to schedule service immediately.

Power Steering Warning Light

This warning light can indicate malfunctions in your power steering system or low power steering fluid. It could also mean that your serpentine belt is broken, especially if this light and the batter light come on at the same time. The light looks like a steering wheel with an exclamation point to its right.

Seat Belt Warning Light

This light reminds the front occupants to buckle their seatbelts. If ignored, a chime may sound.

Supplemental Airbag Warning Light

This light can indicate issues with your airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, impact sensors, or other airbag problems when it remains on, flashes, or does not come on at all. The supplemental airbag warning light looks like a passenger buckled into their seat, with a small circle in their lap, meant to resemble the airbags.

Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL)

This yellow, engine-shaped light will activate and remain on if of an issue with the emissions system, the fuel cap is not completely secured, or there is a malfunction with the Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). It may also blink to indicate engine misfires, which can require immediate service. This is essentially the Check Engine light.

What Do the Warning Lights Mean When They Are Indicators?

Rather than red or yellow lights, indicator lights are typically white, green, or blue.

Fog Light Indicator

This light indicates that your fog lights are currently turned on. It’s blue with three straight lines and then a wavy line going through the three straight lines.

Front Passenger Airbag and Status Light

This light can indicate that your front passenger airbag system is currently inactive based on the weight sensed in the seat. It looks like the supplemental airbag warning light, except the circle in the person’s lap is crossed out.

High Beam Assist Indicator

This shows that the automatic high beam system is operational. The light itself has a series of horizontal lines stacked on top of one another, with a small, curved shape with an “A” in it on the right.

High Beam Indicator Light

This light will activate when your high beams are being used. It’ll go out when the low beam is selected. It’s blue with three horizontal beams.

Slip Indicator Light

This light activates and blinks when your Rogue’s Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system is operating, notifying the driver that the vehicle is close to its traction limitations. It may also illuminate while the VDC system is on, which means that the system’s fail-safe mode is operating and that the system itself may not be functioning properly. The symbol resembles a vehicle with two swaying lines below.

VDC OFF Indicator

This light indicates that your VDC system is currently switched off. It looks exactly like the Slip Indicator Light, except with the word “OFF” below it.

Turn Signal Indicator

This light means a left or right turn signal is active. Both may be active when your hazard lights are switched on. It looks like two arrows facing opposite directions, and it is usually green.
